What is a Passkey MFA?
A passkey is a modern, passwordless authentication method that allows you to securely sign in using your device's built-in security features, such as your fingerprint, facial recognition, PIN, or security key. Passkeys are designed to be more secure and easier to use than traditional passwords and MFA methods because they are resistant to phishing attacks and cannot be reused by attackers.
Is Passkey a default MFA method at Premium Brands?
Yes. As of September 1, 2026, Microsoft has updated its authentication experience and now promotes passkeys as the default and preferred authentication method during MFA registration and account setup. When users sign in and are prompted to set up additional security information, they may see passkey registration presented as the recommended option.
Can I continue using Microsoft Authenticator?
Yes. Microsoft Authenticator will continue to work for MFA and account verification. However, Microsoft may recommend passkeys as the preferred sign-in method because they provide a more secure and convenient authentication experience.
What if I do not want to set up a Passkey?
As part of Premium Brands' security requirements, setting up a passkey is mandatory when prompted. Passkeys are being adopted as the preferred authentication method to enhance account security and provide a safer sign-in experience. Failure to register a passkey may impact your ability to access Microsoft 365 and other corporate resources in the future.
